I’m starting to shut the door on this team. Quickly.

Thumbsdown_1You know, getting shut-out by the Royals is bad.  Losing two in a row to the f–king Orioles is asinine.  I had originally stated that if the Yankees could get to 4 games back or less of the Red Sox by August 28th, I felt we had a decent chance to take the division.  Now, I’m about 95% certain there’s no way in **** it’s going to happen now.  I’m even close to saying the Wild Card is out of the question.  There’s too many problems with this team, too many variables that aren’t being dealt with properly.  Johnny Damon is leading off, for God only knows what reason; our bullpen has gone to sh!t; our starting pitching has been off-kilter for the last month; our offense is spottier than a Rorschach Test; our manager is a buffoon.  These are the things that get magnified right now, and even more so when the team can’t win.  If we were somehow able to keep our heads above water despite everything, I would be more optimistic or at the very least, less pessimistic about this team and where they stand.  Because at least it would show they were trying.  Some of these games….it just looks like they quit half-way through.  Like when Jeter doesn’t bother reaching for balls that go past his left side.  Or when batters pop-up the first pitch they see or K on balls that are over their heads or dusting their shoetops.  It doesn’t look like effort.  When the door slams shut, it’ll be loud.  I hope they are prepared for that.

Brian Burres, for goodness sake. Brian Stinking Burres, could see that one coming a mile away. Terrible. Losing three in a row in this manner is shameful. How guys can chase poor pitches out of the zone and still miss them, for example the 87-mph fastballs, is beyond me. Poor decisions. Damon is killing this team right now, and was useless every time up tonight.

yeah, where was shelley with a lefty pitcher? what about torre’s obsession with righty on lefty? i guess it is overruled by his mistrust of anyone under 30

I’m still perplexed as to why Torre let Damon bat with runners on the corners and 1 out, seeing as he had been 0-3 going into that at-bat. Duncan should have batted and Damon needs to get out of the lead-off hole.

A lefty we had never seen before. We were doomed to lose before we took the field. That’s how pathetic we’ve been all year.

//Did Jeter look like he didnt make enough of an effort for a ball? Or was it a ball that he couldnt get to? Doesnt sound like Jeter if his effort is in question.//

The two are synonymous anymore and if you watched Yankee games on a regular basis, you’d know that. His range to his left is s–t. Don’t bother telling me it’s not because it is. My eyes and the eyes of a lot of other fans don’t lie. There are balls he doesn’t bother trying for because he knows he won’t get them.

Jeter is not above criticism, not anymore. The “four ring” days are over.

//but I thought that you meant that he didnt stick his glove down to get a ball when he possibly could have made the play.//

I’ve seen him do that once or twice. It’s not malice so much as laziness.

And this goes out to backstopbob, the author of the ridiculously stupid comment I just deleted: If my post was a “typical” Yankee fan response, then your comment was a “typical” a$$hole response. Sorry!

Don’t you mean BackDoor Bob? If there was a purgatory in baseball, Nuke, Damon, and Joe would probably be there right about now…
