Games 65, 66 & 67: How sweep it is.

Ah, Crazy Stein.  What a vision.  For those who might be new to Yankees Chick, whenever the Yankees sweep a series, Crazy Stein gets posted.  It was taken during either the ’98 or ’99 championship parades since both were sweeps, and the crazed look in his eyes matched with the way he’s holding the broom is just great.  It’s fitting.

The first two games of the series could really be called deja vu, since we both both games by the score of 12-4.  With Derek on the DL the March to 3,000 tracker has been halted at six…..which means we can focus on some other offensive achievements in his place.  Over those two games, Mark went 4-9 with 6 RBI, Grandy went 2-7 with 5 RBI, and Robbie went 3-9 with 4 RBI.  Add in yesterday’s game totals, and Grandy went 5-12 with 5 RBI and Robbie went 5-13 with 4 RBI.  Not bad for a series worth of production, there.  Yesterday’s game was also a walk-off, which means the drama llama made his appearance as well.

The pitching during this series was just as impressive as the offense.  CC had a very strong outing in Game 1, with a final line of 7 IP, 8 H, 4 ER, 0 BB, and 6 K.  In Game 2, Nova wasn’t as strong but he did get the win, with a final line of 5.2 IP, 7 H, 4 ER, 3 BB, and 2 K.  In Game 3, Gordon was a call-up to start the game and considering that, turned in a pretty decent first-time performance with a line of 5.1 IP, 7 H, 2 ER, 3 BB, and 3 K.  Our bullpen was really the dominant factor outside of Game 1, putting in a combined 8 IP of work.  During those eight innings, they gave up just 5 H, 0 ER, 2 BB and 5 K.  That’s pretty damn impressive considering that in both those games, the starters didn’t get out of the 6th AND the third game went 12 innings.  So all in all, I’ve got no complaints about this series, and we really needed it to pull closer to Boston.  Let’s keep this train rolling along!
